For those of you who do not know, PBC recently started an outreach program at Grand Canyon University. Several people come every week and God has moved in miraculous ways.
Here are some of the different things we have done, the fruits from those events, and what I have learned through this all:
Played sand volleyball and invited strangers to join – built relationships through playing again the following week and staying in contact
Caramel popcorn balls – handed out 73 caramel popcorn balls to freshmen with PBC flyers attached, asked highs and lows of Thanksgiving break, 1 girl will start coming to community group
Handing out apple cider/hot chocolate – asked people how we could be praying for them, many opened up with requests such as grandparents with cancer and close family passing away
Through all of this, I have learned no matter how ill-equipped we may feel God can always use us. He continually molds us and makes us into children after His own heart and equips us for whatever situation we are in.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on our own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Campus outreach has definitely challenged me and taught me how to put my complete trust in God and to run with His plan and timing. We have prayed and asked God for guidance, been flexible, and allowed Him to lead.
An example of this was one night we planned to go to the volleyball courts and hand out PBC water bottles with flyers inside. The courts were all full though, so we walked around campus to hand them out. Almost immediately we were drawn to two girls whose hearts Christ was stirring in. As a group, we were able to talk about Christ and the impact He has had on our own lives.
I have learned to be open to where Christ has placed me and to rely on Him. We don’t always know why God has placed us in an exact situation, but we should trust in Him and that He will give us the words to say.
As seen in 1 Corinthians 12 all spiritual gifts are important. God has a plan and a way to use each and every one of us for the growth of His kingdom.
Outreach at GCU is not something for just GCU students to help with. We would love if other people from within the church are able to help with campus outreach to broaden the area we are able to reach for Christ.
For His glory,
Anna Robison
