LOVE FOSTERS – OHANA FOR CHRISTMAS
Sunday, November 29 – Donation Collection Begins
Sunday, December 20 – Last Collection Day, wrapping party and gift delivery
We recently launched an initiative to help meet the needs of those in the Arizona foster care system called Love Fosters. Foster care happens when a child can no longer safely live in their families’ home and they are taken by the state and, usually, placed in a foster home.
There are more than 19,000 Arizona children in foster care, but there are only around 4,500 licensed foster families. Children who are unable to be placed in a foster home often end up in a group home like Ohana.
Ohana provides 24/7 family-oriented and trauma-informed care for foster children who have faced extreme neglect or abuse. In these homes, each child is provided with opportunities to build skills needed to live as a happy, safe, and motivated adult.
Ohana emphasizes “the importance of living as family in our homes”.
This Christmas season, Phoenix Bible Church will partner with Ohana in purchasing gifts for the 2 foster group homes they have. These are Christmas gifts the children have selected themselves on Amazon. As a church, we will have the opportunity to purchase and wrap gifts, individually or with a Community Group, November 29 – December 20.
Starting December 6, we will have ornaments hanging from the lobby’s Christmas tree representing each child’s gift request. You can grab one there or check out our online gift list.
At PBC we engage culture, uphold truth and love people well. Love Moves and Love Fosters!
What better way to live that out than through engaging some of the most vulnerable in our community through foster care? More than 13,000 children in Arizona are facing instability and a sense of abandonment. They’re being left to question, “What’s wrong with me?”
As a living, breathing body of Christ, we can stand up to this injustice to help these kids know they are loved and wanted. We are dedicated to listen, learn and engage to foster a love for those in foster care and support parents who foster.
There are many different levels that you can engage at Phoenix Bible Church. Wherever you are, and however God has called you, we want to come along side you on this journey! Here are a few ways you can help with Love Fosters:
Begin by listening to The Forgotten Podcast to hear stories and topics about foster care from a Christian perspective
Attend an Arizona Faith and Family training/certification program. Whether you are considering forster care/ adoption or want to support those who do!
Watch this video from Faith and Family to learn more
Be part of supporting the needs of PBC foster families through friendship, toys, meals, and prayer!
You are not alone and we want to be part of your journey. We’d be honored to support you with resources and friendship along the way.
PBC will open our building as a Visitation Center for biological parents to spend time with their children. Volunteer to connect with the kids and their parents as they spend time with one another.
